Feng Shui and PTSD

Feng Shui and  PTSD

In today's world 7.8% of people will experience PTSD at least once in their life. This can occur from an array of tragedies, trauma, abuse, and so on.  I have friends/family who have been diagnosed with having PTSD from having a loved one commit suicide, attempt to commit suicide, being devastated by world news, who have been sexually assaulted and the list goes on.

I share this because in a world where we see more of what is happening instantaneously there is more of a chance that more people will experience PTSD at least once in their life.    It is good to know first of all that you are not alone.   Secondly, their are tools that you can use to help create a sanctuary in your home or office so that you feel uplifted and safe.  (Of course working with your doctor on PTSD is the number one thing you should do! What I am going to share are additional tools to help you and do not replace working with a physician.)

Tool Box Tips

  1. Declutter your home and office.    These spaces could be reminding you of the trauma in the past.   Is there anything in your spaces that reminds you of the past that is a trigger?   If so, let go of those items.  Donate, recycle or repurpose those items.   You want to look at your space and feel uplifted and empowered, especially on those days that you are most sensitive.
  2. Learn about the Emotional Freedom Technique also known as tapping and free yourself from your past.
  3. Create a routine for when you are triggered.   You most likely know how often your PTSD is triggered and by what.   If not, start journaling so you can discover patterns to what are triggers for you and how often.    We know that there will be triggers.   Create a routine to help you manage daily when a trigger occurs.    Here are some possibilities as to what this could look like:    Wake up and play gentle music, use essential oils to get you started on the right foot, have art/photos on your wall that bring your joy and feeling of love, be mindful of what you eat and drink to create joy in the body for example, sugar creates added stress and will add to the pain, discomfort and memories.   Start playing with works for you!    Be open to creating your plan designed for you by you!
  4. In your health and family gua, make sure that everything in this space reminds you of who you are today and all that you have in your life as far as your health and well being and supportive family.    Don't have family pics of anyone who you are currently fighting with or in disagreements with, this will lower your energy.  Once everything is better with that friend or family member you can reintroduce their photo into your space at that time.  Are the photos of you present day or from the past?   Choose the present day photos to empower the present you.  Past photos from the same time period of the trauma can be a trigger.
It is important to recognize that we are always growing and evolving and that there isn't a one size solution for everyone.  Pick and choose what you resonate with and what empowers you.

Your home is a reflection of who you are and where you are going, or it can be holding you in the past and hard to let go, forgive and start a new path.

Which Gua Should I work on first? Am I stuck in a certain area of my life?

Feng Shui Bagua

Look at each Gua area of your home and determine:
· What do I like/dislike about the space?
· What do I like/dislike about the things there?
· What memories and associations are held in place by these things?
· Do I feel comfortable and safe?
· Is it organized?
· How does it correlate with the associated Gua area?
· What specific improvements or enhancements can I make?

Spring is in the here! Make changes. Decide what you want today! I remind myself of these same things. When I am stuck in a certain area of my life, I need to look at that Gua and re-evaulate and say what changes do I need to make in here, how is my life changing and how are my dreams and goals changing. Then make those changes based on the new you and what the new you wants!

Great philosophy!

As you make your New Year Resolutions think about how you have grown and what your goals are and make sure you implement them into your space this year. Out with the old and in with the new! Wear something new today. Have lunch or dinner with friends and family. Celebrate today the way you want everyday this New Year to be. Enjoy!

Chinese New Year- Year of the Rabbit- February 3rd, 2011

A year of serenity, very much welcomed and needed after the ferocious year of the Tiger. We should go off to some quiet space to nurture our wounds and get some rest after all the battles of the previous year (and I think everyone had them!).

Good taste and refinement will shine on everyone and people will acknowledge that persuasion is better than force.

This is a time to watch out that we do not become too indulgent (we don't want to go from one extreme to the next... remember Feng Shui is all about balance). The influence of the Rabbit tends to spoil those who like lots comfort and thus impair their effectiveness and sense of responsibilities.

Money can be made without too much labor. Our life style will be joyous and leisurely as we allow ourselves the luxuries we have always craved for. A relaxed year with unhurried pace. For once, it may seem possible for us to be carefree and happy without too many bumps in the road!

Go celebrate!

How does this Gua affect my health?
Health & family is key to your health! How you nurture your body: the food you eat, the drinks you choose to hydrate with and the skincare you use all affects your health ( and vitamins, pollution, stress, etc..).

How you interact with family members and the types of relationships that you have with your family also plays a huge role in your health.

What does this Gua represent?
This Gua represents wood energy which is growth. This is a great Gua to make intentions about the type of health you wish to have. This is a great space to declare the types of relationships that you want and are willing to have in your life. Strengthen relationships and your health and you will have an incredible grounding center for you to grow in all areas of your life.
